407. Birds and Heritage Vegetable Gardening

June 18, 2010

Ink fineliner on paper, circa February 2010.

A bird on a pumpkin! I was reading a book on heritage vegetable gardening and felt so inspired by the beautiful fruits and vegetables that I decided to create an illustration representing that. I got the references for the birds from a book on Australian birds, though right now I can’t recall what kind of birds they are, exactly. I’m still working on my knowledge of Australian avians!

  1. Super!

It looks really good when zoomed in…I like the bird peaking out in the background…the whole image has nice depth…just yesterday I was enjoying a tree full of bald eagles but alas did not have my camera…

  2. Thank you for the compliments! :)

Wow – bald eagles! I’d be kicking myself if I didn’t have my camera at a sight like that. Wow. Not that we tend to get bald eagles around here. Kookaburras, rosellas and galahs, though… They’re in plentiful supply.
