275. TV + Talia

Photograph, Lomo L-CA+ 35 mm film, June 2008.

This is a double exposure showing both a young girl and the television show she was watching at the time.

273. Inspired by Isaiah 44

Pencil on tinted paper, June 2008.

Isaiah 44:3-4 (Today’s New International Version)

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my Spirit on your offspring, and my blessing on your descendants. They will spring up like grass in a meadow, like poplar trees by flowing streams.

271. The Skinny Girl Lost Somewhere Within My Body

Graphite pencil on paper, August 2008.

This was drawn at a time when I was quite ill, and the medication caused significant weight increases. It was an awful time, and I hope I don’t experience anything like that again. There was a time when my figure was not far off the body shape of the girl in this drawing, so it was something of a shock to have such rapid weight gain, when, aside from pregnancy, I had never experienced that before. Sigh!

270. Couch

Looking out across the front fence, I espied this stripy couch on the roadside. Either it was picked up by a garbage truck, or it was stolen by the individuals who travel around scavenging junk from people’s front nature strips (the grassy bit next to the footpath).

266. Playing With Perspective

Copyright F. Lokot 2008

Pencil on paper, April 2008.

This was actually just a quick practice sketch inspired by an art book I was reading. It was emphasising issues to do with perspective, vanishing points and all that. So, this is one of the sketches I did, trying to develop a sense of distance using shapes and colours.

That’s me in this photo, taken recently on a cold winter afternoon. It makes me laugh, a lot!

Here’s a photo scanned from our first batch of photos from our new Lomo LC-A+ with the Russian Lens. It’s a film camera, hence the scanning. Yay! I love the character and spontaneity of this brand of photography.

It’s for a sociology subject. Better get back to cramming!

258. Old Abandoned House

Copyright F. Lokot 2002

Photograph, colour 35 mm film, scanned and adjusted in iPhoto, 2002/2008.

This is the old house at Mathison Park, Churchill, Victoria, Australia. Having taken many a stroll on the walking track there, I had often wondered what this building was doing there. Eventually, the Churchill newspaper ran an article on the history of the local area, interviewing a lady who had once lived in the house.

Inspired by an Arabian stallion. I love the unique shapes and forms of the Arabian Horse, especially those with high amounts of Egyptian in their ancestries. They are amazingly beautiful and I’m not sure that my art will ever do them justice.

239. Nachos

Inspired by Mother’s Day lunch. Please don’t accost me about the unhealthiness of this meal. I’m aware it’s no good for my eating plan. It’s the only time I’ve had nachos in months, seriously!

221. Clouds In Summer

Photograph, January 2008.

Summer around here begins in December and ends at the end of February. We’ve been suffering from a drought for the last few years, so there are few things more glorious than clouds. I took this photo on a January day, hopeful for the rain to come. Since then, we have had plenty of rain. In fact, last week we caught the tail end of a cyclone - for the first time in recorded meterological history in these parts, if I remember correctly. Crazy winds caused AUD$millions in damages. The power went out in many places. Here we were treated to a 6-hour blackout, but in other areas some people were without electricity for days. Some people were even killed in the storm.

So, there you have it - it never rains, it pours… and gusts and wails and destroys stuff.

Something so gentle and calm about simple white clouds on a summer day!

PS. wordpress has changed a bit just recently, so I’m still getting used to the new methods. Apologies for the double photograph, I’ll work on doing it right next time!

220. Guitar Grrrl

Guitar Grrrl
This is from a series of recent photos of me and my guitar. This one wasn’t one of the best, I think it gives the illusion that my chin is massive. Oh well…

Abstract flowery pencil musings…

216. Pastel Pencil Landscape

Pastel Landscape

Pastel pencil on paper, August 2007.

This was inspired  by an example in an art tutorial book. I used pencil pastels, they are effectively pencils with hard pastel in them. Using the shavings from the pastel enabled me to blend the colours together, and sharper lines and detail were made using the pencil pastels as pencils… I hope that makes sense!

The book I used is, as far as I know, English, so I tried to create a more Australian feel in my drawing. After all, I’ve never been to England; and I grew up in rural Australia. So it makes sense to me to draw what I know!
