Shark

Pen on paper, March 2008.

This super cute shark was drawn by one of my children, aged 5, who was inspired by a children’s art book to attempt to recreate this fearsome creature. I think it’s brilliant!

  1. What a wonderful shark! 🙂 This is the best shark drawing I’ve ever seen, along with the hammerhead you sent me. Beautiful work! I hope to see more from you soon.
    Love from Granny. 🙂

  2. This is a great drawing of a fearsome sea-creature. Isaac seems to have the family talent for drawing. Good work. xxx

  3. Wow Isaac. I got such a big fright when I looked at this. I thought it was real for a moment. Those teeth look real. You have done a wonderful drawing & should be very proud. Keep up the excellent work.
    Love poppi xoxoxoxo 🙂

  4. Thank you all, I told Isaac you liked his drawing and he was very happy! He said he misses you all (and I’m not making that up, that’s what he said!)

  5. Awwww…..We miss you too, Isaac! 😦
    And Tia.
    And Mummy and Daddy.
Hope to see you sometime in the not too distant future.
    🙂

  6. I do not see any sort of shark in that picture. I do see a loch ness monster with walrus whiskers(teeth) one cyclops eye with eyelashes, three excuses for a dorsal fin and two pectral fins, and a cookie-cutter shark looking caudal fin, with a long keel.
I hope you get some sense in you, since that doesn’t look like any sort of ‘cute’ shark. If that’s the best shark you’ve seen, you’ve got to be kidding me. You’re just suckering the kid to look like he did a good drawing, which is not the case, so without further dissent, I would like to say, that you need to accept that you can’t go telling your kid that he’s so great. It’ll just ruin his life later, and you will be the one to blame.
By the way, tell the kid that his friend the shark will be gone by the time that he’s grown up. They’re all going extinct, if you do not know.

    Quotent quotable of this quote:
“Roses are red, violets are blue, the sharks are dead, and it’s all because of you.”

  7. What an awesome shark drawing Isaac! Well done!
    Love Sarah xo

  8. Shark1973 – I don’t know where you got your degree in child psychology, but telling a young child their pictures are worthless and unrealistic has never been a positive experience for either the parent or the child in question. Who would want to continue drawing and learning after being told their work was rubbish?

Isaac – I love it!! Keep at it, you’ve clearly picked up some of Mum’s talent! 😀

  9. Thank you for all the sensible, useful comments on here!

Shark1973, your theories on environmental degradation are clearly skewed. Your model that somehow my vegetarian, non-shark eating family are contributing to shark extinction appears to need tweaking.
