458. Surly Unicorn

400! Parade of horses.

February 17, 2010

Pencil on paper, 2009.

It seems somewhat fitting that the 400th illustration in my art folio would be a picture of horses, with a pegasus and unicorn joining the parade. For anyone that has been following my blog for even a short time will attest, I like horses and drawing horses. A lot.

My earliest blogged art folio pieces included mermaids and horses, way back in late 2006. Almost 4 years and 400 pieces later, looks like I’m still drawing horses and mermaids! I am happy to see that I have been able to explore new avenues (selling t-shirts, for example) with my art as I’ve hopefully improved and progressed. It has been fun interacting with other art and horse fans on the various sites, too, such as and

This is one of my t-shirt designs that I recently added to RedBubble’s t-shirt previewer (which I first spotted on the site early February 2010) brings it to life. I think it does, anyway!

Here’s the same illlustration as seen through RedBubble’s t-shirt previewer.

More info on this as a t-shirt at my bubblesite.

T-Shirts For Sale

March 5, 2009

Here’s some of my t-shirt designs that can be found at my Bubblesite. All of them start out as hand drawn illustrations – whether using marker, ink liner, or coloured pencil. The images are then scanned and cleaned, before being turned into redbubble t-shirt templates. According to the RedBubble t-shirt information:

“T-Shirts are made with 100% cotton American Apparel fabric, and are available in cuts to suit men and women.”

You can choose alternative colours for most of the shirts. If you’re after unique t-shirts with designs by an Aussie artist, I hope you’ll give these a go!

This giraffe t-shirt has been by far the most popular design I have on offer.

This dinosaur t-shirt is a reflection of my not so secret wish that I had a pet dinosaur… Turns out they’re hard to find, though!

290. Pastel Unicorn

September 19, 2008

Pastel pencil and pigment liner on tinted paper, April 2008.

Doing the more traditional cloven-hoofed, lion-tailed Unicorn vibe here. Unicorns represent for me strength, nobility, purity and all those wonderful knightly things that postmodern society has lost in its pursuit of hedonism-at-all-costs.

199. Colourful Unicorn

February 12, 2008

This is one of the water soluble pencil paintings I did over the hot New Years season. I can’t explain it. I just draw unicorns, a lot. They are probably my default drawing! One of my dear friends has humorously suggested that perhaps there are tiny, invisible horses on my paper, and I’m just tracing them when I draw.
