Sparrows + Doughnut

December 3, 2008

Tuesday 3 June 2008 – 9.53 am

When shopping, I often find myself observing the birds that have become trapped in the shopping centre. I wonder if they’re happy here or if it is a prison.

Local Park Hidden From One’s Mind

December 2, 2008

20080601-flokot-jun1footyovalSunday 1 June 2008 – 3.47 pm

First day of winter. We’re taking a walk around a massive parkland to give the cameras a spin. This place is just near our house – it backs onto our street. For some reason, I forget it’s here. And I think we scared off the teen boys on their bikes.

Wild Donkeys

September 29, 2008

10.02 am – Thursday 29 May 2008

The world is full of amazing creatures. Just read the Bible – Job 39 – for a sense of their wonder. This was inspired by Job 39:5-8. I’m drawing from memory. There’s many species and subspecies of wild ass, onager, donkey, etc., each unique and with incredible endurance and swiftness of foot… or hoof.

Random extra information: on this passage of Scripture!

Job 39

5 “Who let the wild donkey go free? Who untied its ropes? 6 I gave it the wasteland as its home, the salt flats as its habitat. 7 It laughs at the commotion in the town; it does not hear a driver’s shout. 8 It ranges the hills for its pasture and searches for any green thing. (Today’s New International Version, from http://bible.crosswalk.com/.)

From ICR’s Online Study Bible reference to Strong’s Concordance:

6501
arp , peh’-reh: or pereh (Jeremiah 2:24) {peh’-reh}; from 06500 in the secondary sense of running wild; the onager:–wild (ass).

Job 39:5
Who hath sent out the wild ass free? or who hath loosed the bands of the wild ass?

4th Day Concepts

August 27, 2008

Thursday 29 May 2008 – 9.53 pm

Thinking about art concepts. Sometimes I get so full of ideas that it’s better if I sketch them roughly – using note paper and ball point pen.

Reading Genesis 1 – one of the chapters I’ve read more than any other in the Bible. This sketch is from verses 14-19 – the 4th day. Inspired by, that is.

Impossible Mountains

August 25, 2008

Wednesday 28 May 2008 – 10.10 pm

Images inspired by my over-active dreams. I keep meaning to draw them. Here’s one conceptual outline from a dream I had in recent months. Concept “girl riding draught horse past impossible mountains.”

Living Water

August 23, 2008

Wednesday 28 May 2008 – 10.02 pm

Contemplating the significance of water as a symbol of life in the Bible. There’s some rich truths bound to be discovered there

John 4:14…

…whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life… (NIV)

Hippy Towns

August 22, 2008

Saturday 24 May 2008 – 2.20 pm

At a cafe in a different town from usual. It’s in the mountains near our house. I love coming here, it’s a fascinating hippy and New Age town. Admittedly it would be hard being a Christian here, but it is a beautiful place nonetheless!

Herbicides And Sociology

August 20, 2008

Thursday, 15 May 2008 – 11.45am

Stuck at the shops while the neighbours coat their garden in herbicide. I don’t want to risk an allergic reaction. Oh well. I guess I can just sit in the coffee shop writing uni assignments – like every other 20-something here

– Me, attempting to analyse the social movements using cyberactivism

– My bored daughter

Winter Youth Group Population

August 18, 2008

Friday 9 May 2008 – 5.30 pm

Sitting here at the local youth group registration desk. There’s hardly a person in sight. Strange how the numbers drop right down in winter. In summer we get around 700 kids, right now, there’s barely 10. I suppose they;re snug and warm at home.

A-Moo

July 14, 2008

Saturday 26 April 2008 approximately 1pm

Yesterday – took a trip to the country. The cows were feeling agitated at us snapping photos of them. So, when one cow sneezed, the other leapt into the air in fright.

P.S. Is it a-choo or a-moo?

Knights In Urban Environments

July 12, 2008

Monday 22 April 2008 9.15 am

Yesterday, we went into the city to see an exhibition of mediaeval illuminated manuscripts. It was fun seeing all the people dressed up in costume – and the armoured knight whacking children with a foam sword.

Washed Out Punk Fest

Nothing like spending all day at a soggy music “festival” only to have it washed out an hour before your favourite band. 😦

Punk Music Fest

July 9, 2008

Friday 28 March 2008 11.20 am

I’ve somehow managed to score a ticket to a punk / indie music fest tomorrow. Unfortunately I’d long since thrown out my black punk wardrobe from 10 years ago. Hmm… I’m probably going to look right out of place.

– me, t-shirt and high pants

– a non-conformist looking at me like I’m a freak

Hmm, time to buy some clothes?

Rich People’s Beach

Sunday 23 March 2008 – 2.30 pm

In Brighton, on the beach. After growing up in the country, I find these suburban beaches quite foreign. They’re neat, controlled, covered in signs, full of rich people with pedigree dogs, and massive houses overlooking the bay.

Weddings

June 30, 2008

Tuesday 18 March 2008 – 10.02 am

We were at a wedding on the weekend. It was beautiful – fun and moving. Pity about the HOT weather, but hey – my own wedding was an outdoor ceremony in 42 degrees Celsius heat! So who am I to complain?

I’ve realised that I’ve recently experienced a multicultural wave of weddings. This last one was for 2 people of Chinese descent. I’ve also been to a bilingual Chinese x Indonesian wedding, an Italian one, and numerous white Australian weddings. Each one was so unique – it’s great!

Power Black Out And No Waffles

June 28, 2008

17 March 2008 – time- ? after 8.00 pm

It was at least 39 degrees Celsius today. It’s Autumn – what’s happening to the weather?!

The power has gone out in part of our street. The neighbours still have theirs – the air conditioner is pumping away. Not us. We don’t have air con, just a little fan. We can’t even run that! So, a house full of candles. Too hot.  >:-(

– me, drawing in the dark, lamenting that the waffles won’t get cooked now.

Global Warming

13 March 2008 – around 3pm

So, tell me, is global warming the reason we’re having 38 degrees Celsius days in Autumn, or is it just a hot summer? My husband tells me it’s because we’re in Australia – but I’ve lived in this state all my life and it always seemed a lot colder and greener than in recent years.

I hate Sunday afternoon television… actually, I dislike tv at the best of times. But why ruin a beautiful afternoon with tv?!

“Take that, tv!”
